An earthquake of 8.9 magnitude on the Richter scale, which measures the seismic energy released by an earthquake has struck the northeastern coast of Japan and has killed at least 32 dead and an unknown number of wounded, according to the latest tally provided Japan by the police. Japanese seismological authorities said, this quake is the worst it has suffered in its history. The authorities have also reported that several people have been buried by the collapse of a building in Sendai and many others were injured, also in Osaki, Miyagi Prefecture, and in central Tokyo, where several dozen people have trapped after the roof collapse of a building. Around 4 million homes are without power in six provinces, as reported by the authorities.
